Home Sessions Action Planning About Open Space Participants Invitation and Organizers

Introduction:

On March 19 and 20, 2008, more than 150 people took part in a national 'open space' event exploring and taking action on the theme of "Urban Environmental Design for Community Sustainability". The event was a direct outgrowth of a smaller session on the topic which occured during a conference at the North Carolina Arboretum, in November 2007, with the theme of "Regional Collaboration and Action for Sustainability".

Over two days, the participants convened more than 35 one hour topic-specific sessions and 10 action plans related to the topic. Local, regional, state-wide and national collaboration and actions are occuring as a result.

This dynamic and results-oriented event, which was facilitated by Sustainability Strategies LLC utilized the 'Open Space' group methodology, which encourages personal ownership and action by all participants around those topics they care most about.

Links are provided to the session data, action plans, a listing of participants, the invitation to the event which includes the co-convening organizations, a picture gallery, and a description of the open space methodology.
