SUSTAINABILITY ALLIANCE of the MOUNTAINS (SAM)

November 28, 2007 - North Carolina Arboretum

Introduction:

The Summit was convened by the Sustainability Alliance of the Mountains(SAM) which is a cross-sector voluntary alliance of public, private, academic and institutional partners. SAM's vision is "Regional Sustainability", and its mission is "Leadership for sustainability collaboration and action is the southern Appalachian bioregion". SAM's partner organizations meet on approximately six-week intervals, ever-expanding it's usefulness as a cross-sector and cross-leadership resource for regional sustainability.

Sustainability Strategies LLC, as the stewardship team for SAM, facilitated the Summit, and provides on-going pro-bono services to SAM, as a public service to the region.

The North Carolina Arboretum hosted the event, and the Mountain Area Information Network (MAIN) is providing web site design, development and hosting for the Summit.

The Summit was held in collaboration with the United States Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development, Washington DC.
