Born next door to the Mark Twain house in Hartford, CT, and raised in historic Wethersfield, Ned moved to Western North Carolina in 1979 to work at the original Mother Earth News Eco Village Research Center. A 30 year sustainable energy and environmental activist and advocate, he has worked on projects including passive solar earth bermed housing, solar photovoltaic and thermal systems, wind power, composting systems, green building techniques from cordwood to rammed earth, micro hydro systems, alternative fuels such as ethanol and wood, and more. Currently coordinator of the 7th Annual Southern Energy & Environment Expo www.seeexpo.com, producer/host of "Our Southern Community", a weekly public affairs program Sundays on energy, environment and economics and "News from Back Home" weekly Thursdays on www.wncw.org, and director of the new Rational Earth Actions Learning Institute, Thank You educational facility (REALITY) www.rationalearthactions.net. Former Steering Committee member of the Western North Carolina Alliance and past Board Member of the NC Sustainable Energy Association, he remains active in promoting a sustainable and rational future for the next generations.
